Walker Farm – Certified Organic Farm, Nursery & Garden Center
Walker Farm specializes in flowers, fruits and vegetables and is a Vermont Organic Certified grower. My wife and I were driving by on this busy section of Route 5 just north of Brattleboro, VT because we needed a break from 2 hours of highway driving, gas and water for our thirsty souls. We were heading down toward Brattleboro and a quick lunch when we spotted this crowded roadside stand filled with huge hanging baskets of annuals and rows of tables filled with the largest variety of annuals and perennials we’d seen in a long time. Maybe “House by the Side of the Road” in Wilton, NH rivals this display, but that is where the comparison starts and ends. What we discovered after turning around and heading back to look at the hanging baskets was a hidden treasure. Not being local we had no idea what lay behind the roadside stand, beyond the landscaped front, beyond the sight-line of a speeding passerby.

We spent a few minutes picking out our hanging baskets. We really wanted 8, but we only purchased 4 because they were so big and our car was so small. Mind you we have a Subaru Forester with plenty of room in the backseat and the ‘way’ back. However, 4 baskets filled the car. We have to go back because we are addicted to incredible diversity and quality products. It’s only 2 hours from our Northern NH home and on the way to Western Massachusetts and the Brattleboro area which is extremely beautiful, so it won’t hurt too much to saddle up the pickup truck and head there for a longer stay.

They don’t do mail order, but you can plan your selections from the catalogue, plan your gardens for the next year and call to make sure they have what you want. It’s a great guide just because it is so inclusive of so many products including fruits, vegetables, annual and perennial seeds, potted plants, container plants, exotic and not so exotic plants, trees, shrubs and lot more.
