Rural Backyards Series: Sports and Recreation Space
Sports and recreation fanatics need space. They want lots of play area for volleyball, badminton, horseshoes, croquet, bocci, frisbee, pickup football games and whiffle ball games. Some want swimming pools and tennis courts. These types of landscape needs require a lot of space. Level ground might be an issue for some in rural areas. Even a farm that has been subdivided may seem to have level ground from a distance, but when you actually walk the property you’ll realize that the ground probably has many undulations not conducive to many types of sports activities. These types of landscape needs may require major terrain renovations and improvements. One need commonly placed in the driveway in front of the garage is a basketball hoop. This is a good multiple use of space unless you need it for your cars. Putting in a basketball court, even a half court can be expensive, but if you’re a fanatic about hoops, then a lined, asphalt 1/2 or full court might be in your eventual design.
